VAUGHAN LOOKING TO LEAD FROM THE FRONT

22 July 2019

James Vaughan insists he will lead from the front, following Saturday’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Wigan Athletic.

Starting alongside Clayton Donaldson for the first time, Vaughan netted from the penalty spot against his former employers.

And he has spoken of the importance of establishing strong partnerships with his new colleagues.

The City striker said: “It is really important to develop healthy relationships with all your team-mates.

“Me and ‘Clayts’ are two of the more senior members of the side so, with us being strike partners against Wigan, it was important we led from the front.

“I feel we did as best as we could have, which will definitely set us in good stead for the coming season.

“The lads backed us up brilliantly from behind. All these things, going forward, point only towards a successful 2019/20.”

Former Everton-man Vaughan also stressed the importance of a positive attitude and high work ethic ahead of his side’s upcoming Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The forward believes, having gone toe-to-toe with second-tier opposition, success is in sight this season - should the "right habits" be adopted.

He added: “This season will be all about us working hard for each other and working together.

“If you mix the right habits with the quality you have already seen we possess, I am confident the results will sort themselves out.

“Come half-time (against Wigan) we had shown a very good Sky Bet Championship side we were more-than capable of competing against them.

“We acquitted ourselves really well, as we knew we would have to, to deal with them in that sense.

"We can take an awful lot from the game and keep building towards Cambridge at home."
