BOWYER DELIGHTED WITH PRE-SEASON START

25 June 2019

Gary Bowyer insists his Bantams have made a positive start to pre-season preparations.

City kick off their pre-season campaign with a trip to Guiseley on July 6 and Bowyer says the schedule between now and the start of the league season follows a "detailed structure".

Bowyer said: "The players have come back well, we are all impressed with what we are seeing.

“The first couple of days of pre-season are always exciting and we are pleased with the work they have done thus far – and the effort they have put in.

“I think we definitely have a detailed, structured programme. A lot of work has gone into it.

“The main aim of pre-season is obviously to get the players fit. We will be working at a certain intensity and gradually increasing our standards over the coming weeks.”

Bowyer has made no secret of the fact a summer of rebuilding City's identity lies ahead.

The former Blackpool boss is anticipating a "tough" pre-season campaign, which will prepare his side as well as possible for the coming term.

The Bantams chief added: “Our pre-season training is very much centred around what we are demanding of the players next season.

“The most important thing is the character of our side. I pride myself on bringing the right types of people into a football club - and it has been no different this summer.

“The new lads have settled in ever so well. They have been terrific and we have seen some very promising things so far.

“The players we have brought in, to date, are good characters and we look forward to improving them and making them better."
