Gary Bowyer insists he is still on the hunt for players to bolster his squad ahead of the start of pre-season training.

Clayton Donaldson became City’s seventh signing of the summer, on Friday, and the Bantams boss confessed he is happy with business thus far.

However, with less than eight weeks to go until City get their Sky Bet League Two campaign underway, Bowyer insists work is still to be done.

Bowyer said: “I am delighted with the players we have brought in so far. With one week to go before we start pre-season, we are pleased with the business done.

“First and foremost, we have signed good lads, good characters. They have really wanted to sign for Bradford City and play for the club, which is really important.

“I am like any other manager, though, I still want a few more signings.

“I have identified targets in certain areas of the pitch where I feel we still need a few more bodies and a bit more competition, so we are making progress in that sense.

“We just need to be a bit patient. People are still returning from holidays, but we are generally getting busier.”

While Bowyer is keen to further his recruitment, he has a strict criteria which potential targets must fit.

The City chief has identified several boxes new signings need to tick and explained how these are at the centre of his attention when it comes to searching for players.

He added: “The new lads have to fit in with the style of play we are trying to implement next season.

“Considering rebuilding the identity of the football club is a massive component in recruitment.

“It is not just about the players we are signing. We must sign the right characters who represent the club properly, that is the most important thing.

“What I can guarantee is - regardless of whoever comes through the door - we will be competitive.

"We will be putting demands on the players to show the passion and fight the fans deserve."
