NEW-BOY HENLEY SETTLING IN WELL

27 June 2019

Adam Henley says he and City’s fellow new arrivals are “gelling well”, following the beginning of the Bantams’ pre-season preparations.

A move to the Northern Commercials Stadium in early June reunited the right-back with his old manager Gary Bowyer.

And Henley is looking forward to further developing relationships with his new team-mates.

He said: “The first week back is always the hardest but it has been great for the lads.

“It is tough getting your legs going after summer, but the grind has started and I am enjoying it.

“It is great here and everyone is really looking forward to the season ahead.

“There are a lot of new faces around so, naturally, it will take a little while for everyone to gel.

“But we have a good set of lads here and I am sure - over the coming weeks - we are going to turn into a very tight knit group, which is what we all need if we are going to be successful next term.

“With a lot of new players, it is important to get on the same page as soon as we can, so we can prepare as well as possible before the start of the season.”

Henley believes pre-season is an essential period of preparation for the coming campaign, seeing it as an opportunity to set important standards to benefit the team once 2019/20 gets underway.

The 25-year-old added: “Pre-season is about building a philosophy, as well as getting fit.

“It is a very important period in deciding how our season goes and sets the standard for the next 11 months or so.

“I think we need to prepare for every friendly like it is the first game of the season; we need a strong mentality heading into the start of August.

“If we can get through pre-season with the right mentality and a good philosophy, it will stand us in good stead for the beginning of the campaign.”
