BANTAMS BATTLE TO MACCLESFIELD POINT

30 November 2019

City came from behind to battle to a 1-1 draw at Macclesfield Town.

After falling to a first-half penalty, City captain James Vaughan struck after the break to ensure Gary Bowyer's men travelled back to West Yorkshire with a point.

City began the affair in control, with Anthony O’Connor failing to plant a header either side of Owen Evans after Vaughan had missed from close range.

It was, however, the hosts who broke the deadlock from the penalty spot - just after the half-hour mark.

Ben Richards-Everton lunged in late on Corey O’Keeffe and Jake McCourt made no mistake from 12 yards out, sending Richard O’Donnell the wrong way to hand his side the initiative.

The Bantams drew level on 73 minutes through their skipper.

Harry Pritchard swung a pinpoint free-kick into the area which Vaughan guided into the far corner.

The hosts were then reduced to 10 men in the final minute of normal time when midfielder Connor Kirby accrued his second booking of the match.

The Bantams pushed for a would-be late winner, though the hosts remained resolute to ensure the spoils were shared.
