BOWYER: 'BANTAMS GAVE GOOD ACCOUNT'

9 November 2019

Gary Bowyer was pleased with his side’s showing against higher-league opposition, following a 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury Town.

Bowyer’s side will host Salop in an Emirates FA Cup first-round replay after being held by their Sky Bet League One hosts.

The Bantams boss was encouraged by his team’s performance and believes it has given them a good platform to build on, ahead of the return fixture.

He said: "We gave a very good account of ourselves against a capable Sky Bet League One team.

"We are in the hat for the second-round draw which is always the aim, before the match, so we are happy.

"We started the game well and even had plenty of chances to win, overall. We were great in the first half and maybe should have been a couple of goals up.

"We loosened off a little bit, at times, but I was happy with the way we really went for the win, in the second half.

"We had a good go, which is what I wanted us to do. We need to focus on ourselves and are looking forward to the replay."

Bowyer also spoke of his delight in being able to welcome Jake Reeves back into his matchday squad - for the first time in almost two years.

The midfielder has not pulled on a claret and amber shirt since January 2018 and the City chief was happy to see him make his return.

Bowyer added: "It was a massive bonus - first and foremost for Jake himself - after what he has been through.

"I was delighted for him. He played in a behind-closed-doors game on Tuesday and came out of that fine.

"But it is very important we do not get carried away with Jake and continue taking it step by step.

"Ever since we came back for pre-season, he has been a great character to have around the dressing room.

"Whether he has been involved with training or not, he is aways passing on his advice and spreading positivity around the camp.

"Hopefully, he can kick on, now, but it essential we do not put any pressure on him to do it immediately."

The replay, at the Utilita Energy Stadium, is scheduled to take place on Tuesday November 19. Further ticketing details will be announced in due course.
