Gary Bowyer was pleased with the work-rate of his Bantams, after a 2-0 victory over high-flying Exeter City.

Two first-half goals saw City return to winning ways and move back into second place in the Sky Bet League Two table.

The City chief expressed his delight in coming out of the affair victorious and insists the triumph was a well-deserved one.

He said: "To come out of the game with a clean sheet and two goals was very pleasing.

"It was a hard-fought victory against a very good footballing side. We were delighted.

"We scored two very hard-earned goals and managed to get them at brilliant stages, to take a 2-0 lead into half-time.

"You have to be organised to cope with the way Exeter play. I think we coped well with what they threatened us with. We were very happy, overall."

One of the biggest positives Bowyer took from victory over the Grecians was a clean sheet - the Bantams’ first in seven weeks.

City had not shut a team out since a 1-0 win at Walsall - on September 14 - and the Bantams boss believes this has been a long time coming.

Bowyer added: "We knew Exeter would come out fighting, after the break, and we did ever so well to contain their threat and keep hold of our clean sheet.

"We were absolutely delighted to not have conceded.

"Richard O’Donnell and the back four have deserved more clean sheets than they have managed, recently.

"So, to get a clean sheet against a good team - at home, in front of our own supporters - is brilliant.

"We love playing here, in front of them. They were great again, today, and we were happy to have sent them home happy."

Bowyer’s men travel to Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup, next Saturday (3.00pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
