BOWYER LAMENTS 'MISSED OPPORTUNITIES'

Gary Bowyer was left to rue "missed opportunities" as the Bantams exited the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.

City had opportunities to overcome their Sky Bet League One opposition, including a chance being cleared off the line - before the interval.

Bowyer felt disappointed with the result and claimed his side could have "increased their standards".

He said: "We were disappointed to get knocked out because we had some really good chances to win the game, particularly in the first half.

"We had opportunities cleared off the line and their goalkeeper made a few very good saves.

"We got to half time knowing we could increase the standard, but we did not quite seem to do so.

"Plus, we felt as though their goal was probably offside, which adds more disappointment.

"But, even after the goal, we had chances to get the equaliser - however we just fell short, in the end.

"Over the two legs - against a Sky Bet League One side, who are decent and organised - we showed what we are capable of.

"They are an experienced side who showed how to manage the game after taking the lead."

Despite disappointment, Bowyer believes his side need to recover and turn all of their focus to league action.

His side do not remain in any of this season's cup competitions and the City chief insists this presents the perfect opportunity to kick on in Sky Bet League Two.

Bowyer added: "While there is a major disappointment from the game, we have to recover quickly, now.

"Our main focus and only focus from now - until the end of the season - is on the league.

"We have had a lot of disruption, recently, with games being called off, which may have played a part in the cup defeat.

"Nevertheless, we will be better for the Shrewsbury game, come Saturday, with a bit of rhythm behind us.

"Overall, the loss was disappointing but, from our point of view, we have to look forward and focus on the games we have ahead, starting with Plymouth."
