Gary Bowyer has called for his side to create more history in the Emirates FA Cup - ahead of tomorrow’s first-round clash at Shrewsbury Town.

City famously made the quarter-finals of the competition in 2015, beating eventual Premier League champions Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge, along the way.

Bowyer is desperate for his men to create more memories for the Bantams faithful and write their own chapter in the club’s history.

He said: "I love the FA Cup. I remember going to watch it as a kid and have great memories of it, as a manager.

"We have to try and build more memories and create history of our own, beginning on Saturday.

"As our supporters know, these cup competitions give us the opportunity to create memories which last a lifetime.

"If we are going to create memories in the competition, this year, we have to approach games with the mindset of being able to cause an upset.

"Shrewsbury are obviously a league above us so will go in as favourites, while we are the underdogs. We are going there to have a really good go at it."

Bowyer is also keen to welcome the challenge of taking on a higher-ranked team in the opening round of the competition.

The City chief believes the Shrews will present a challenge different to any his team has come up against, so far, this season, and demanded focus on the task ahead.

Bowyer added: "We have an important opportunity to gauge how well we have progressed and how capable we are, in comparison to higher-league opposition.

"Nothing changes, with regards to our approach. We have to be competitive, as we have all season, and be ready to put on a good performance.

"It will obviously be a tough game against a good team - from the league above.

"Shrewsbury have a good know-how and are well drilled by a good coaching set up. We are looking forward to the game."
