Daniel Devine is relishing the challenge of competing against Sky Bet League One opposition - ahead of Saturday's trip to Shrewsbury Town.

The Bantams begin their 2019/20 Emirates FA Cup campaign at Montgomery Waters Meadow, with action set to get underway from 3.00pm.

The midfielder declared playing in the competition is something every young footballer dreams of, and is looking forward to playing against higher-league opponents.

Devine said: "We all look forward to the cup games. If you ask any young footballer, they will all tell you they dream of playing in the FA Cup, one day.

"As a team in the EFL, we always look forward to playing against higher-league opposition and the prospect of causing upsets.

"Hopefully, we can replicate the kind of things this club has done in the past, beginning on Saturday.

"This competition gives us a great opportunity to make history and special memories against sides you would never usually be given the opportunity to play against.

"We have to approach the Shrewsbury game with a strong mindset, ready to go on and achieve something big."

A product of the Bantams’ academy, Devine will make his 50th professional appearance for the club - on Saturday - should he be involved.

The 22-year-old spoke of his pride in representing his hometown club on so many occasions and is happy to be a role model for City’s current young prospects.

He added: "Making my 50th appearance for the club will be great, if it happens on Saturday.

"I cannot really think of too many academy prospects - in recent years - who have made played so many games for the club, so it will be a really proud moment.”

"Hopefully, the lads currently in the academy can see me as a bit of a role model.

"There are a lot of good players in there, at the moment, and they need to be able to see a pathway at the club.

"Gary (Bowyer) is always keen to include them and show them that, if they work hard enough, they will be given an opportunity in the first team."
