Anthony O’Connor was encouraged by a 2-0 victory at home to a "tough" Exeter City side.
The Bantams returned to winning ways against the high-flying Grecians - at the Utilita Energy Stadium - to rise to second in the Sky Bet League Two table.
O’Connor claimed the victory was made all the more satisfying by the way City dug in for the three points, against very able opponents.
The centre-back said: "We are always happy when we win games of football.
"We knew it would be a tough game and that Exeter are a good footballing side, but we are a good team, ourselves.
"If we put in the hard work - back at home, in front of our great supporters - we knew we would get the win.
"We wanted to get back to winning ways as fast as we could, after the Port Vale game. Gary (Bowyer) told us to fight harder than them and be difficult to beat, which I thought we were.
"There is always confidence in the camp - even after a defeat against Port Vale and a postponed match, last week. We were desperate for a positive result, against Exeter, so were all happy.
"It was not pretty, at times, but we fought a lot harder than them and dug in a lot deeper. Winning like that is very satisfying.
"We all worked hard and stuck with one another, which is the most important thing."
Despite a convincing victory over the St James Park outfit, O’Connor claims Bowyer’s men still recognise areas for improvement and are determined to target these, moving forward.
The former Aberdeen man insists City are not getting ahead of themselves and are fully focussed on continuing to build momentum.
"It was a very nice victory, but just another on the board. We have to go again, next week,” added the 27-year-old.
"We know we can play a lot better than we did, against Exeter, which was the encouraging thing.
"There is still loads more to come from us, so to be able to beat a team like Exeter 2-0 - having not put in the most complete performance - was promising.
"We are very honest with ourselves and are desperate to keep improving. It is up to us, now, to make sure the hard work continues.
"We will take areas from the game where we believe there is still room for improvement and try to apply that, over the next few weeks.
"We are desperate to continue building momentum and keep putting points on the board. We want to keep winning games, because that breeds even more confidence."
