City manager Gary Bowyer has been named a patron of the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

The charity, founded by Bantams legend Stephen Darby and close friend Chris Rimmer - who both have motor neurone disease, was officially launched last Thursday at Anfield.

The club helped raise over £275,000 when City played host to European champions Liverpool, back in July, as part of a major fundraising effort for the newly-formed charity.

Darby, who spent five years with the Bantams, is delighted to have the City chief on board as efforts to surpass £500,000 in monies raised get underway.

The former City captain said: “Since day one of announcing the setting up of the foundation, Gary has supported us in any way he can.

“His backing has been overwhelming and we cannot thank him enough.

“Gary is a special person and we are honoured to have him as a patron, as part of our journey to help make a difference for those battling and living with motor neurone disease.”

Bantams boss Bowyer said: “It is an absolute honour to be associated with the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

“Raising awareness of motor neurone disease is essential and it says everything you need to know about Stephen and Chris, given the way in which they are so dedicated to helping others.

“As a club, we will do everything in our power to help aid the charity’s effort to fund research into motor neurone disease - in a bid to find a cure."
