Shay McCartan was delighted to have secured three points after scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Swindon Town.

McCartan's second-half strike - his first at the Utilita Energy Stadium since February 2018 - saw City condemn the Robins to their first away defeat in the league, this season.

The forward was pleased to have played his part in the Bantams' third consecutive league win in BD8.

He said: "It was a brilliant win. Swindon are a good side and their position in the table does not lie.

"We played very well. It was one of our best performances of the season and we deserved the three points.

"It was a tough game. We could have folded when they equalised but we dug deep for the three points, which is the main thing.

"I am over the moon with the goal and to have come off the bench and made a difference. We were all delighted with the victory.

"I got a little stroke of luck with it. There was a deflection and it went in off the post but you need that in football, sometimes.

"When I came on, all I was thinking about was trying to get a shot off and make a difference. I am glad I was able to do that."

The Northern Ireland international was again encouraged by the home supporters who he insists played their part in the triumph.

McCartan believes the atmosphere is well and truly "back" in West Yorkshire and stressed the City faithful have an important role to play, this season.

The 25-year-old added: "I was speaking to Jake Reeves, before the game, and we were talking about how it felt like we were back in Sky Bet League One, with the amount of noise from the stands.

"The atmosphere is back in the stadium, now, which is full credit to our supporters.

"It is brilliant to see. They really are our 12th man - as we have mentioned - and it is a great feeling.

"There is no team in this division with the support we receive and it gives us a massive boost.

"We have to use our supporters to our advantage. They were excellent against Swindon and, again, pushed us over the line - in the end."

The Bantams will be backed by a sell-out away contingent of over 1,600 supporters for next Saturday's trip to Morecambe (October 12).
