Mark Trueman was pleased with the performance of his under-18s side, following a 3-0 victory over Rochdale.

A rampant first-half performance at the Utilita Energy Stadium saw the young Bantams advance to the second round of the FA Youth Cup.

Trueman was full of praise for his players and confessed his pride in seeing his side extend their winning streak to three games.

He said: "It was a good, professional performance. There are always nerves and pressure on the lads, when they play in the Youth Cup games.

"But, in terms of the gameplan, they applied it really well. They pressed aggressively, controlled the game and we got the goals at vital times.

"We should have really been going in at half-time 4-0 up, really. However, I thought we managed the second half better.

"The changing of shape took us out of our rhythm, a bit, but, in terms of managing the game and killing it off, we did really well."

Trueman's men now face a trip to either Salford City or Carlisle United in the next round.

Despite both teams sure to provide a difficult test, City's lead professional development phase coach has his eye on one particular side.

Trueman added: "We want to play Salford, if possible. They knocked us out of the cup - in the first round - last year, and are doing well.

"Obviously, we want to test ourselves but, at the same time, we want to advance to the third round, so it is a tough one.

"However, I would like Salford, so we can have a chance to get one back over them, after last season.

"But, no matter who it is it, it will be a tough tie and a different test, for the lads.

"Whoever we get, we will be prepared and ready to put in a performance."

Trueman's side are back in EFL Youth Alliance North East division action this Saturday, welcoming Scunthorpe United to Woodhouse Grove (11.00am).
