BOWYER DELIGHTED WITH 'BATTLING' VICTORY

14 September 2019

Gary Bowyer heaped praise on his battling Bantams, as they secured a second-successive victory, with a 1-0 win at Walsall.

In a cagey affair, City were again made to persevere and keep battling in order to eventually snatch all three points.

And Bowyer was thrilled with the character displayed, for the second time in seven days.

He said: "We are all absolutely delighted with the win - our second in two weeks.

"It is great when you have as many supporters behind the goal and we did and we were over the moon to be able to send them home happy.

"The boys’ attitude and desire, just recently, has been first class. To keep going and end up winning the game this week - as we did against Northampton - is a credit to the players.

"Even in the two defeats we suffered, we have shown great character and desire to try and push forward and salvage something from the game.

"It is important we carry that on over the course of the season, to keep on picking up points."

A clean sheet at the Banks’s Stadium was the first for Bowyer’s men since a 1-0 shutout away to Stevenage last month.

And the City chief commended the performance of goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell, in addition to other members of his backline.

The Bantams boss added: "We were thrilled with the defensive performance, again, and to get another clean sheet on the board.

"Richard O’Donnell has had a huge impact, this season, and made another few fantastic saves.

"The defence was fantastic. It is about improving, now, and wanting to keep raising our standards.

"We need people to drive others on as we head through a busy period in the season. We must get better."

Bowyer’s men are back in action on Tuesday night, travelling to Cheltenham Town in Sky Bet League Two (7.45pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
