MELLOR LOOKING FOR DEFENSIVE REACTION

Kelvin Mellor says City are out to improve upon recent defensive errors when they take on Carlisle United today (3.00pm).

Gary Bowyer’s men fell to their first defeat in four matches on Tuesday evening, losing 3-2 at Cheltenham Town.

And the full-back is keen to see the Bantams’ rearguard demonstrate more solid, organised form, beginning today.

Mellor said: "The Cheltenham defeat was extremely frustrating. To score two goals, away from home, and still come away with nothing was very tough to take.

"We must defend better - that was the one thing letting us down, on Tuesday.

"To concede goals from set pieces - which we work on a lot - was nowhere near good enough. We were lacking in concentration, which was unacceptable.

"We have defended very well so far, this season, so Tuesday’s game was very discouraging.

"We are desperate to put that right, beginning with the Carlisle game."

Despite currently sitting 17th in Sky Bet League Two, the former Blackpool defender is cautious not to underestimate the threat today’s opponents pose.

Mellor was complimentary of the Cumbrians’ attacking flair and expects today’s opponents - like every other side, this term - to provide a unique test.

"Carlisle play in quite an attacking formation and we are preparing for a tough game," Mellor added.

"We have not really faced a team so far, this season, who play the way they do. They will provide a very different challenge.

"We are really looking forward to the match and are heading into it full of confidence and determination to get back to winning ways, in front our own supporters.

"We face a battle, every week, in this division. We have played nine games now, this campaign, and each one has been contrasting.

"This is a very difficult league to get promoted from and it is up to us to try and get the results to do so."

Supporters can purchase tickets up until kick-off for today's clash, from the ticket office at the Utilita Energy Stadium.
