UNDER-18s FALL TO HOME DEFEAT

30 September 2019

City’s under-18s proved unable bounce back to winning ways, after losing 2-1 at home to Notts County.

Despite creating numerous chances throughout, the young Bantams were left empty handed, condemning them to their third defeat of the season.

The first chance of the game went to the visitors, with Notts County winger Kayne McKenna finding the back of the net - inside the opening 10 minutes - from a Kieran Cummings cross.

However, the goal was ruled out with the ball adjudged to have gone out of play before the cross came in.

Despite the early scare, Mark Trueman’s side fashioned a few chances of their own, but it was County who drew first blood - in the 14th minute.

The lively McKenna drove down the right channel and sent a ball in to fellow teammate Tyreece Palmer.

The No.9 slipped in front of his man and scrambled the ball past City keeper Tom Donaghy, handing the visitors the initiative.

After conceding first, City responded well - following the interval - drawing level five minutes after the restart.

Full-back Dan Francis worked space on the left flank before lifting the ball to Connor Morris.

The forward - fresh from making his senior debut in last week’s Leasing.com Trophy tie at home to Manchester City Under-21s - slotted past County keeper Tiernan Brooks to equalise.

After hitting the post a minute prior, County took the lead once more, this time from a Cummings free-kick.

The winger picked his spot and sent it superbly into the top corner, just after the hour mark.

The visitors nearly made it three after a miscalculated pass from Donaghy. However City’s No.1 recovered from his error to keep out Cummings’ effort.

With five minutes remaining, the young Bantams had opportunities to equalise through Charlie Wood and Kian Scales.

Nonetheless, the away side held on to take all three points back to Nottinghamshire.
