City were beaten 2-1 in a West Yorkshire derby at the John Smith’s Stadium - by Sky Bet Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Having gone 1-0 up inside two minutes of an entertaining pre-season clash, Stuart McCall’s men were pegged back by two goals either side of the half-time break.

The Bantams began with a high press and intensity, taking the lead with just two minutes on the clock.

Kurtis Guthrie - fresh from a brace in last week's friendly against Doncaster Rovers - outmuscled his defender and drove towards the Huddersfield goal.

He offloaded the ball to feed Mottley-Henry who picked out the top corner with an unstoppable drive.

Less than 10 minutes later, though, and the hosts had dragged themselves level, through Karlan Grant.

The former Charlton Athletic forward took advantage of some hesitant City defending to find the bottom corner with an effort from the edge of the area.

McCall’s side continued to create chances during a breathless opening period, with Harry Pritchard testing Ben Hamer before Lee Novak had a backheel cleared off the goalline.

The hosts grew into the game after the interval and took the lead - for the first time in the afternoon - after 65 minutes.

Substitute Steve Mounie fed Matthew Daly whose attempted cross took a wicked deflection off a City leg to wrong-foot Richard O’Donnell and find the back of the net.

The Bantams pushed for an equaliser towards the end of a second half which had a much lower tempo than the first, but it was their fellow West Yorkshire hosts who hung on to take a 2-1 victory.
