BANTAMS BACK ON TRACK WITH PLYMOUTH WIN

29 February 2020

City bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over high-flying Plymouth Argyle.

Ben Richards-Everton and Dylan Connolly gave the Bantams a commanding lead heading into the interval - which the visitors failed to overturn.

Stuart McCall’s men took control of the game early on - through Richards-Everton's first goal at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

The defender rose above the rest to head Connor Wood’s corner home - inside the opening six minutes.

Plymouth had a chance to return the favour eight minutes later - through Callum McFadzean - but were unable to capitalise as the No.21 saw his shot sail wide.

Argyle were then made to play with 10 men as Gary Sawyer was given the marching orders - on the 40th-minute mark - for hacking down Connolly.

As the first-half came to a close, City doubled their lead with a goal-of-the-season contender - in stoppage time.

Connolly found himself open 25 yards out, before bending an unstoppable effort into the top-right corner.

After the restart, the Bantams had a chance to make it three - courtesy of Clayton Donaldson.

Connolly drifted from his marker before squaring it to Donaldson who was unable to convert as his effort rolled wide.

With five minutes left on the clock, Ryan Lowe’s men were down to nine men after Antoni Sarcevic was shown his second yellow card.

Despite being two men light, the away side struck back - through Ryan Hardie.

The attacker worked an angle before lashing a shot in - through the dive of Richard O'Donnell - with three minutes of normal time remaining.

Both sides exchanged chances late on but neither could score again as the Bantams held out for the three points.
