Callum Cooke admitted his frustration after the Bantams "dropped two points" in a 1-1 draw at home to Grimsby Town.
City took the lead with just 10 minutes to play against the Mariners - through Cooke's strike which was turned in by Lee Novak - though were pegged back in injury time.
The Peterborough United loanee praised the desire of his City team-mates, but was disappointed not to have recorded a victory.
He said: “I felt the boys gave everything. You could see a noticeable lift from the get go - which has obviously come from Stuart McCall.
“It was always going to be a big occasion with the manager coming back and, when our supporters came down here in full force, it gave us a lift.
“They got behind us really well but, unfortunately, it was not meant to be, in the end.
"It just proved one of them days. The lads were down because we gave our all and it is up to us now to put it right.
“The good thing is we have a game on Tuesday and, hopefully, we can turn that game into three points.
“The point against Grimsby was not ideal and it does put a bit of pressure on us to get a result against Stevenage.
“But, with the squad we have and the effort in which we showed against Grimsby, we are confident in ourselves to get the job done.”
Manager Stuart McCall made his return to the City dugout against Grimsby Town, having only had since Tuesday to work with his players.
Cooke insisted a change could be seen since McCall's arrival and is looking forward to working with him more.
The midfielder added: “We all enjoyed our time under Gary Bowyer, but I think Stuart has just given a lift to the place.
“We are a bit low on confidence, at the moment, but the manager told us that, if we keep playing like we did against Grimsby, the results will come.
“Victory was not meant to be, but I think we were a bit more direct and showed more fight.
"Hopefully, we can take those positives into the Stevenage game and go one better to take all three points.”
