McCALL DELIGHTED WITH ‘DESERVED’ VICTORY

Stuart McCall was pleased to have seen his side pick up a hard-fought three points, following a 2-1 victory over high-flying Plymouth Argyle.

The Bantams went two goals to the good during a dominant first-half, before surviving a late Pilgrim revival to claim all of the spoils.

McCall believes - despite making the affair difficult for themselves - his side were good value for the win.

He added: “We are obviously delighted with the three points. I think we deserved it but made very hard work of it.

“I was very pleased with the start we made to the game and the fight and enthusiasm we showed.

“We worked a lot on set-pieces this week because they have not been good enough and I think we were a lot better with them - at both ends of the pitch.

“We had a lot of size out there and made our set-pieces count which was very satisfying and helped us on our way to getting the three points.”

McCall admitted the victory was made all the more pleasing when taking into account the calibre of the opposition - with the Green Army sat fourth in Sky Bet League Two ahead of the encounter.

The former Scotland international was happy with the way his side weathered the visitors’ late storm and held out for all three points.

He added: “It was a very end-to-end game between two good sides.

“We had enough opportunities to kill the game off, especially when they had players sent off.

“Plymouth are doing really well at the moment and will always hurt you with the football they play.

“They have good players and looked very dangerous on the attack, which makes the win even more satisfying and, really, keeps our season alive.

“We knew we needed three points and are very pleased to have kept our good home form up.”

Over 1,300 Bantams are set to descend on the Peninsula Stadium next Saturday, with tickets for City’s 3.00pm trip to Salford City SOLD OUT (March 7).
