Stuart McCall has demanded desire and drive from his players - ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Newport County.

McCall expects the encounter at Rodney Parade to prove a physical battle, with conditions set to again be difficult.

He insists this is something his Bantams must rise to - on top of being prepared to give everything in order to return with three points.

He said: “It will be a tough game, particularly with the difficult surface we are expecting.

“Both sides have quality but it is hard to put it into practice in them kind of conditions. We will go down to Newport and try to be as positive as possible.

“They are solid and defensively strong so it is up to us to focus of how we can try and break them down.

“Football is about winning and, in these kinds of games, you have to make sure you do everything you can to try and do that.

“It will be a scrap and a battle but we have to give all we have in order to come back with the three points.”

Having now had over two weeks to re-adjust to life back in the City dugout, McCall knows he is still learning about each of his players with every passing day.

He is has called for a change in mentality and attitude from his men since returning, and insists he continues to see this develop.

The former Scotland international added: “The players need to know the levels of commitment and desire we are after, here.

“We have been very sloppy with things we have been doing - on and off the pitch - of late, and we need to know the standards.

“Players are now under no illusions of what is required. If not, then they cannot be here.

“We need to have basic levels of dedication and desire to do things to the best of our ability.

“There is certainly plenty of quality so we need to have the drive to be able to get things done.”
