Stuart McCall admitted difficulty in not feeling disappointed, after his side was pegged back to a 1-1 draw against Grimsby Town.
Having taken the lead late on in McCall’s first game back since returning as manager - City succumbed to a stoppage-time equaliser at the Utilita Energy Stadium.
The Bantams boss was pleased with the fight and desire of his players, though was disappointed to have not taken all three points.
He said: “It is naturally disappointing to lose the lead with two minutes to go, once you have gone ahead.
“Overall, I probably do not think we did well enough to win the game, in terms of quality.
“We showed a lot of endeavour and togetherness and defended very strongly, but we lacked a bit of quality in the final phase.
“We have had a good three or four shots over the bar and had 14 shots overall. Only one of them was on target, which was the goal.
“I thought we dealt with Grimsby - and what they had - quite well. They are obviously a decent team who have had a bit of a lift since their new manager has come in.
“We were under the cosh at the end and it could have been a lot worse.
“But, of course, when you go 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go, you are a bit deflated when you do not come away with the three points.”
Having only re-entered the City dugout on Tuesday, McCall is pleased with the progress made by the squad over his opening four days in charge.
He believes his side will continue to grow over the coming weeks and months as they enter the final stages of the season.
“We have only been in a few days and are working very hard. We know there is still a lot for us to work on.
"I hope, in the weeks to come, we can start to add a little bit more quality.
"We have had a little bit of a dip in confidence because performances and results probably have not been to a good enough standard, recently.
"But, it is up to us all to try and put that right and improve upon that, as we progress.
"In terms of how work ethic and desire - with how we want the players to apply themselves in the game - there were no problems.
"I think they can all look into each other's eyes after and say they tried their very hardest, which is what we ask.
"The goal we conceded still haunts me and we have to be better with certain things, but that will all hopefully come with time and even more effort."
