OPPOSITION GUIDE: NEWPORT COUNTY

City face their second-consecutive away trip tomorrow, travelling to South Wales to face Newport County. 

The Exiles currently sit 16th in the table, though are 12 points outside the Sky Bet League Two play-off places with three games in hand.  

We have compiled an Opposition Guide, packed full of detailed information on tomorrow's hosts...

JANUARY TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The Rodney Parade outfit spent the January transfer window making five additions to their squad and waving goodbye to a further five faces. 

Ins: Billy Waters (Northampton Town, loan), Dale Gorman (Leyton Orient, loan), Ashley Baker (Sheffield Wednesday), Jordan Green (Barnsley), Otis Khan (Mansfield Town, loan). 

Outs: Keanu Marsh-Brown (released), Taylor Maloney (Charlton Athletic, returned from loan), Danny McNamara (Millwall, returned from loan), Corey Whitely (Bromley, loan), Dominic Poleon (Dover Athletic, loan). 

ONES TO WATCH

Ryan Haynes:

An attacking left-back, Haynes as established himself as one of County's most consistent operators, this season. 

The 24-year-old began his career at Coventry City and has also served spells at Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town. 

Matthew Dolan:

City supporters will recognise former midfielder Matthew Dolan, who signed for Newport in 2017. 

The 26-year-old graduated through Middlesbrough's academy and has also turned out for Yeovil Town and Hartlepool United. 

Pádraig Amond: 

Prolific goalscorer Amond has cemented his place as an integral part of County's squad since signing in 2017. 

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international began his career at Shamrock Rovers and has also represented Accrington Stanley, Grimsby Town, Morecambe and Hartlepool United.

Jamille Matt:

Jamaican-born striker Matt is in his second season at Newport, having netted on 20 occasions for the Exiles last term. 

The 30-year-old carries an abundance of EFL experience, having also represented Blackpool, Fleetwood Town, Plymouth Argyle, Grimsby Town, and Stevenage. 

THE MANAGER

Former Bantam Michael Flynn has held the helm at Newport since initially taking caretaker charge in 2017. 

The ex-City captain made over 100 appearances for the club between 2009 and 2012. 

The 39-year-old represented the likes of Wigan Athletic, Blackpool and Huddersfield Town in midfield, before beginning his player manager career in 2015. 

THE CAPTAIN

Midfielder Joss Labadie has been at the Exiles since signing from Dagenham and Redbridge in 2016. 

The 29-year-old carries a wealth of EFL experience, having represented the likes of Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers and Notts County. 

Labadie is a product of West Bromwich Albion's academy, where he began his professional career. 

LAST TIME OUT

Newport were eliminated from the Leasing.com Trophy at the semi-final stage on Wednesday, losing out at home to Salford City after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
