Jake Reeves hopes he can continue a rich vein of form under returning manager Stuart McCall when the Bantams travel to Newport County on Saturday.
The midfielder, playing under the boss who signed him for City in 2017, netted his first goal in claret and amber during last week’s trip to Cambridge United.
Reeves was delighted to have found the back of the net on Saturday and is hoping his form can be built upon in Wales.
The 26-year-old said: “Scoring last week was a massive moment for me, with it being my first for the club.
“I am not always bothered about scoring goals but it was nice to score and again reminded me of the determination I have shown to get back to where I was, after being injured.
“It turned out very bittersweet, with the defeat, but I am happy to have scored.
“I am enjoying my football under Stuart McCall and am having a good time in seeing how I can develop my game more.
“I am getting forward more and have more of a license to work in all areas of the pitch.
“I feel I am doing a bit more of an all-round midfielder’s job and am enjoying it a lot.”
Reeves admitted being pleased at the news his former manager McCall was returning to the club, following Gary Bowyer’s departure.
Despite being sorry to see Bowyer leave, the former AFC Wimbledon man insists the club’s new boss and City go hand in hand.
He added: “It is never nice seeing a manager lose his job and, after Gary Bowyer left, we had to look at ourselves in the mirror as players, being the ones who were not performing well enough.
“With me knowing Stuart and playing under him during his last spell here, I was really pleased to see him return.
“After the circumstances around him leaving last time, I am happy for him and happy for the club.
“It is quite strange how it has eventually worked out, but it is obviously great having Stuart back.
“I originally signed under him - which I took as a compliment, as a midfielder, after he saw something in me.
“My game improved massively under Stuart the first time and I am looking forward to seeing that happen more, now. He means an awful lot to the club and that is hugely important.”
