City proved unable to return to winning ways, being held to a 2-2 draw against Scunthorpe United.

The Bantams hit the ground running with two early first-half goals but were made to share the spoils as their visitors rallied.

The first chance of the game went to the home side - on the 12th-minute mark.

Eoin Doyle was gifted possession before releasing James Vaughan outside the 18-yard box.

The City captain tried an effort from range but could only meet the legs of the recovering defender as the away side cleared the danger.

Two minutes later and Vaughan tested Scunthorpe’s backline once more.

The No.12 peeled away from his marker before smacking a shot off the post.

With confidence building, City eventually struck - courtesy Hope Akpan, on his return to the starting 11.

The midfielder was played through by Doyle, before slotting the ball into the bottom corner - in the 17th minute.

Gary Bowyer’s men soon made it two, as James Vaughan guided Connor Wood’s cross in - on the 19th-minute mark.

Despite going behind, the Iron hit back with a goal from former Bantam Alex Gilliead.

The No.20 cut inside the box before lashing a shot into the bottom corner - in the 33rd minute.

As the first half continued, the away side nearly bagged a second - courtesy of George Miller.

The striker was left one-on-one after a square ball from Gilliead, but could not convert as new debutant goalkeeper Luke McGee flashed across his line to make the save.

The first opportunity of the second-half did not come until the 73rd minute and saw the visitors equalise.

Scunthorpe’s John McAtee won possession and drove forward before shooting from outside the box.

The ball bobbled along the surface and found the back of the net - pulling Paul Hurst’s side level.

Both sides tried to steal all three points in the latter stages, but were unable to push in front as the two teams settled for a point.
