Gary Bowyer has called for his players to remain solid in defence - ahead of tomorrow evening's trip to Colchester United.

City visit Essex looking to return to winnings ways - with action set to get underway from 7.45pm.

And the Bantams boss is looking for his defence to return to their strong ways - in a bid to regain the best defensive record in the EFL.

Bowyer said: “We need to tighten up again, when you look at the fact we kept five clean sheets in seven - prior to the last two games.

“On Saturday, there was the new situation of the back five trying to get used to Luke McGee in goal. I thought he did well with the saves, especially in first half.

“Obviously Luke has got to get used to them. There is more to come from him, that is for sure.

“But, the defending comes from all of us - from the front all the way through.

“We have been difficult to beat, but the last four goals we have conceded have been soft.

“We spoke with the players again and their honesty has come through. They were not happy with the goals we conceded as they were preventable.

“It is important we get back to the level we were at when we kept five clean sheets in quick succession.”

The City chief is looking forward to his side's third trip in four matches, and is determined to brush up on form on the road.

The Bantams have the best record on home soil in the division, and is looking for this to be replicated away.

He added: “Everything we have done - in terms of preparation - has been spot on.

“We obviously look at that and ways we can tweak it. But, speaking to the players, they are doing well.

“Sometimes, you anticipate the home crowd to get behind their team and they come out at you.

"We must be better at handling that and finding ways to solve it quicker.

“Against Swindon in the second half, we were dominant and really pushing. But, unfortunately, we did not start right against Crawley.

“We have got to build on the start we made on Saturday, against Scunthorpe, over the first 15 to 20 minutes.”
