WOMEN PROGRESS WITH CUP THRASHING

20 January 2020

Bradford City Women cruised into the West Riding County Cup semi-finals with a 11-1 thrashing of Brayton Belles.

After defeat last time out, the Bantams were looking for a reaction and did not take long to move into a commanding position in the affair.

Amelia Hunt - playing in a more advanced role - scored twice in the opening 10 minutes to put her side in command.

Chris Hames' side then made it three not long after, when Charlotte Stuart's stinging drive proved too powerful for the Belles goalkeeper to stop.

Hunt then completed her first-half hat-trick towards the end of the period to put the hosts four goals to the good at the break.

The second half began where the first ended, with City grabbing a fifth just five minutes after the restart - courtesy of a long-range strike from the left boot of Harriet Jakeman.

The half also saw 16-year-old Amelia White net two on her senior debut, in addition to a Beth Shepherd header and another from Hunt, to take her personally tally up to four.

A close-range effort from Masie Norde and a deflected Zoe Roberts free-kick completed the scoring for the female Bantams.

In between the City goalfest, Brayton did manage a consolation goal - through a fine 25-yard effort - though the Bantams were never troubled as they marched on to the last four.

CITY: Routledge (c); Shepherd, Parrish (Roberts 58'), Sandford, Sales; Prothero (Stube 61'), Hunt, Stuart, Norde; Jakeman, White.

BRAYTON: Huddlestone; McDonald, Thomas, Hall, Harris; Abbott, Doncaster, Dunn, Clayton; Oates, Own. Subs (not used): Cullip, Hornshaw, Leeman.
