YOUNG BANTAMS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

28 January 2020

City’s under-18s were successful on their return to EFL Youth Alliance North East action, overcoming Mansfield Town 3-0.

The encounter was challenging for both sides in the early stages, though three goals eventually separated the two sides as Mark Trueman’s men walked away with all three points.

The first goal of the match did not come until the 25th minute - courtesy of Morris.

The No.9 worked his way through a congested box before finding the back of the net - to put the Bantams ahead.

The Stags did have a chance to level the score - through Nathan Caine.

The No.10 peeled off and found himself open at the back post, but was unable to guide Rio Molyneaux’s cross in as his shot flew over the bar.

Despite the first-half scare, the home side doubled their lead - in unorthadox fashion - four minutes after the restart.

Eliot Goldthorp found himself scoring from a corner, after his pinpoint cross-come-shot crept in.

Then, with 15 minutes left on the clock, Trueman’s young Bantams completed the scoring and made it three.

After a series of flashed chances from Jonny White, Wade Ripley and Kian Scales, Francis smashed home - giving City a three-goal lead.

Scales then had an opportunity to further extend the hosts' lead, though his penalty kick was tipped around the post to see the encounter remain 3-0.
