BANTAMS HELD TO POINT AGAINST IN-FORM EXETER

14 November 2020

The Bantams were made to settle for a point against Exeter City - after a fiercely-contested 2-2 draw at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

Billy Clarke and Reece Staunton got on the scoresheet for City - but their strikes, at either side of two visiting goals - were not enough for Stuart McCall’s side to take all three points.

The Bantams took the lead on 10 minutes through a flowing counter attacking move.

Callum Cooke played a pinpoint ball through the Exeter defence to an on-running Billy Clarke - who calmly placed it beyond Jokull Andresson.

Stuart McCall's men looked likely to extend their lead but it was Exeter who hit back in the 20th minute.

Matt Jay took advantage after Elliot Watt was dispossed in his own penalty area, to strike a low shot which found its way into the bottom corner.

The Grecians were encouraged by their equaliser and started to pile the pressure onto the home defence.

Exeter were rewarded for their advances and took the lead in the 27th minute, through Ryan Bowman.

The game opened up as both teams enjoyed good chances to score. Billy Clarke had a shot from the edge of the box saved before the visitors hit back.

As Exeter looked to be entering the interval ahead, the Bantams levelled on the stroke of half-time. Elliot Watt whipped in a menacing corner to Reece Staunton - who tapped in from close range for his first professional goal.

The second half began in similar fashion as the first with both teams creating good chances for themselves.

The hosts came close to re-taking the lead in the 58th minute as Watt delivered another good corner to Anthony O’Connor - who had a bullet header saved from point-blank range saved.

The Bantams applied the pressure as they looked to get a third, but proved to be thwarted by the Exeter defensive line.

The Grecians had a good opportunity to win in the 78th minute as a ball was crossed over to an unmarked Joel Randall - who headed wide to see the spoils shared.
