McCALL LOOKING FOR ‘COMMITTED’ BANTAMS

Stuart McCall is looking for a “committed” display from his City side - ahead of this evening’s trip to Leyton Orient (7.00pm).

The Bantams look to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat at Salford City on Saturday, when taking on the East London outfit at the Breyer Group Stadium.

Having identified where his side lost the game in Lancashire, McCall knows what he needs to see from the players in the capital.

He said: “We need to start getting points on the board and I want to see a real, committed effort against Leyton Orient.

“I am not knocking the commitment on Saturday, and Salford did make it difficult for us, but we badly lacked the intensity we needed.

“We were not energetic or intense enough in closing players down off the ball, and were far too careless in possession.

“It was not good enough, so we needed an improvement in that area.

“We cannot change the Salford result or any of the results we have had so far, but there are things we need to do to make sure our performances improve enough to the point where we can influence the results going forward.

“I always look for ways in which we can hurt opponents, and we just have to be better - with and without the ball - than we have been.”

McCall is keen to see his side respond to the weekend’s disappointment, and insisted they cannot let the Salford defeat halt their momentum.

Heading into another busy run of fixtures, the Bantams boss is looking forward to seeing how City respond to Saturday’s setback.

McCall added: “We cannot let it press the reset button on the momentum we had started to pick up.

“The Leyton Orient game will be another test of the players’ character and ability.

“I have no doubt we will be stronger over the coming weeks, when we will be less depleted, but we need to have the desire to pick up points - whoever is on the field.

“We do not want to have any excuses or give the players excuses. Once we get out there, we have to be better.”
