WOOD NAMED IN LFE'S 'THE 11'

11 November 2020

Rising star Charlie Wood has been named in the League Football Education's 'The 11' for November 2020.

The second-year scholar and captain of Mark Trueman's under-18s side has earned his place in the side for efforts on and off the pitch so far this season.

Wood made his first-team debut in yesterday evening's Papa John's Trophy meeting with Oldham Athletic, after scoring two goals to send the young Bantams through to round two of the FA Youth Cup last month, with a 3-2 victory at Blackpool.

'The 11' acknowledges both the football and academic progress of under-18 scholars at EFL clubs while also assessing other factors including involvement in community or charity-based initiatives.

During the 2020/21 season, 33 apprentices will be selected for the award, which celebrates the holistic development of young players.

Notable academy graduates to have earned places in the side in the past include Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Oliver McBurnie, Lewis Cook, Ademola Lookman and Ryan Sessegnon.

LFE regional officer Pat Lally said: “Charlie has an excellent attitude towards the game. He is hard working and excels in everything he does.

“Due to COVID-19 and having to work in bubbles, he has been unable to train with the first team, but has still been able to impress the staff with his attitude, ability and overall commitment to everything he undertakes.

“Charlie is also submitting work on a timely basis and is currently achieving a distinction grade profile on the extended diploma units that he has completed to date.”

Warren Sung (Accrington Stanley)

Matthew Cox (AFC Wimbledon)

Charlie Wood (Bradford City)

Charlie Barker (Charlton Athletic)

Harrison Nee (Coventry City)

Alex Matthews (Derby County)
