BANTAMS BEATEN BY HARROGATE

12 October 2020

The Bantams suffered their first defeat of the Sky Bet League Two season - with a 1-0 defeat to Harrogate Town at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

A 74th-minute Lloyd Kerry strike was enough to secure all three points for the visitors in an entertaining all-Yorkshire affair.

The first-ever competitive fixture between the two sides began in enthralling fashion - as a George Thomson cross-cum-shot forced Richard O’Donnell into a fingertip save in the 5th minute.

Nine minutes in, Billy Clarke stung the hands of Town goalkeeper James Belshaw with a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area.

Just moments later, Belshaw was involved in the action again - making an acrobatic reaction save to deny Lee Novak from adding to his goal tally.

Minutes before half-time, Novak came close to opening the scoring again, this time heading just wide from a Tyler French cross.Stuart McCall brought on Callum Cooke at half-time, and the midfielder almost made the perfect start.

His 48th-minute effort rolled just inches wide of James Belshaw’s right-hand goalpost after being teed up by Clayton Donaldson.

New signing Austin Samuels made his City debut after coming on in the 69th minute, replacing Billy Clarke as Stuart McCall attempted to add a directness to his side.

However, in the 74th minute, the visitors took the lead with a Lloyd Kerry strike into the bottom left-hand corner.

The Bantams almost drew level in the 88th minute, but Samuels lacked composure and hit his effort wide into the stands, to see City leave empty handed.
