Bradford City was proud to show support for Hate Crime Awareness Week during Monday’s Sky Bet League Two visit of Harrogate Town - live on Sky Sports.

Both City and Simon Weaver’s side came together to back the efforts taking place to tackle hate crime in the Bradford district.

The national campaign, taking place from Saturday October 10 to Saturday October 17, sees those in support make a collective stand against hate crime - in a bid to reduce its occurrence in the UK.

In a show of pre-match unity, both teams and the evening’s match officials warmed up in ‘Unity is Our Strength’ t-shirts, after Stuart McCall had issued a powerful video message on the importance of hate crime awareness over the weekend.

The campaign continues its course in hope that hate crime can be eradicated and everyone can live together in harmony - whatever their beliefs, race, disability, gender or sexuality - without the fear of being targeted.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s executive member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said: “This show of unity highlights perfectly that if we all stand together we can make Bradford a vibrant, united and caring district - somewhere where there is no place for hate or division.”

Ryan Sparks, City’s director of communications and commercial, said: “We are extremely proud as a club to be supporting Hate Crime Awareness Week and standing against what is a deep-rooted problem in society.

“The work done prior to and around Monday’s game saw us come together with our friends at Harrogate Town to collectively outline our stance against such crime.

“The ‘Unity is Our Strength’ t-shirts players warmed up in prior to kick-off will be signed and auctioned, with money to be donated to charities which fight hate crime nationwide.

“It is important we continue to spread the message and showing our support for the campaign. Bradford is no place for hate.”
