Rising academy star Darryl Ombang has been selected to represent England Under-16s in an upcoming training camp this month.

The 15-year-old goalkeeper, pictured above after signing a two-year scholarship agreement last year, has been a regular in Mark Trueman's under-18s side this season.

Ombang will join up with Justin Cochrane's England Under-16s from October 27 to October 31, training at the FA's St George's Park national football centre home.

He could potentially make his debut for the side in an all-British affair against Scotland during the training camp.

City's academy manager, Neil Matthews, said: "We are really pleased for Darryl and his family. He is a local lad and a great kid.

"We broke the news to him this week and he was very happy. He was on standby to be called up prior to the COVID-19 lockdown so we are now delighted he has been given the opportunity after the England staff have watched him again since the restart.

"He played in our under-18s side on a few occassions last season - as a 14-year-old - but nothing ever phased him. He is a humble person and it is important for him to keep working hard."

Ombang added: "It is a massive honour to be called up and I would like to thank my parents and academy coaches for helping me grow - as player and person.

"It will be a great opportunity for me to develop, being around the kind of players and coaches who will be there.

"I have got a big opportunity and hope to take it by working as hard as I can to make sure I continue getting these chances."
