City’s under-18s advanced to the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Blackpool.

A first-half double from Charlie Wood followed by a late Connor Morris winner successfully saw off the Tangerines at Bloomfield Road.

Mark Trueman’s side got off to a dream start when Charlie Wood headed in from a corner after just two minutes.

The City skipper then added a second 10 minutes later when a partially-cleared cross fell to his feet on the edge of the area.

Wood hit a sublime half-volley which flew into the back of the net to give his side a commanding two-goal advantage early on, which they held for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes.

Nine minutes into the second half and Blackpool pulled a goal back, when James Harrison headed in a Robert Apter cross.

After a prolonged spell of pressure - which saw City on the back foot for the first time in the evening - the Seasiders then levelled the cup tie with 15 minutes remaining, thanks to a far-post header from Brad Holmes.

The Bantams hit back with an instant response, though, and proved to be level for just two minutes, after striker Connor Morris slammed home from a tight angle.

The second-year scholar's strike would be the final of an entertaining, end-to-end affair which secured victory for City to send them into round two.
