WOMEN HELD AGAINST LEEDS

30 October 2020

Bradford City Women rallied to pick up a point with a 1-1 draw at home to West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

After the Whites took the lead in the first half, Chris Hames’ side hit back after the break to take a share of the spoils at Eccleshill United’s Mitton Group Stadium.

On a difficult pitch which was deemed playable despite wild, wet and windy conditions, it was City who has the first opportunity of the game - from the spot - 25 minutes in.

Winger Charlotte Gill was brought down from behind in the Leeds area but Sophie Hawkins missed the resulting penalty, to let United off the hook.

The away side were in the ascendancy and, 10 minutes later, had a penalty of their own, of which Rebecca Hunt converted to give her side the lead.

City grew into the affair after the half-time break, with chances coming for Hawkins and Gill, as Hames’ women continued to press.

Their equaliser came with just seven minutes remaining when a Zoe Roberts set-piece was fumbled by the away goalkeeper.

The kick fell to the feet of Harriet Jakeman who prodded it home. Despite showing bodies forward for a late winner, City were made to settle for a point in the end.
