A youthful City under-18s side - which contained just four second-year scholars - fell to a 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Youth Alliance North East division.

Goals from Huddersfield’s Myles Bright and Jonas Noombasi turned out enough to secure victory over the young Bantams at their Woodhouse Grove training base.

The first goal of the game came in the 26th minute when Huddersfield’s Bright struck a right-footed effort into the far corner.

This proved to be the only action of an otherwise uneventful opening period.

The Terriers added a second with 20 minutes remaining when Noombasi headed in from a corner-kick, past Bantams goalkeeper Darryl Ombang.

City pulled a goal back five minutes later when Cole Roberts tapped in Casey Breaks’ cross from close range, giving Mark Trueman’s side hope of a late comeback.

Though, after having a late penalty appeal turned down, the Bantams proved unable to find an equaliser as Huddersfield left with all three points.
