BANTAMS BOW OUT OF CARABAO CUP

15 September 2020

Stuart McCall’s Bantams exited the Carabao Cup at the hands of Sky Bet League One side Lincoln City - at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

A devastating-first half did the damage for the away side, who found themselves four goals to the good at the halfway point.

Four minutes in and the Imps were ahead - through a Tyler French own goal.

Jorge Grant whipped in a free-kick however the attempt was met by French who unluckily turned the ball into his own net.

Stuart McCall’s men soon found themselves down by two, three minutes later, as Anthony Scully peeled off at the back post before crashing in.

The Bantams did conjure a couple of chances of their own throughout the first half, as Harry Pritchard and Clayton Donaldson both broke free in the box.

But it was Michael Appleton’s men who added to City’s woes - courtesy of Lewis Montsma, who wriggled free before turning in from a free-kick.

As the first half was coming to a close the visitors made it four through a unstoppable James Jones finish - on the 41st-minute mark.

As the second-half commenced, the hosts looked likely to mount a comeback as Kurtis Guthrie tested Imps goalkeeper Alex Palmer from close range.

Nonetheless, the Sky Bet League One outfit hit again just before the full-time whistle as Callum Morton hit home after latching onto Grant's through ball to copound City's misery and put an end to their Carabao Cup campaign.
