BANTAMS SEE OFF STEVENAGE

26 September 2020

Stuart McCall’s men secured their first three points of the 2020/21 Sky Bet League Two campaign with a 2-1 win over Stevenage - at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

The visitors took the lead in the first half but could not hold on for victory as a Lee Novak second-half double gave City the triumph.

Despite Novak having a good headed chance - in the 16th minute - it was the Hertfordshire side who took the lead, on the 37th-minute mark.

Elliot List stole possession before smashing the ball into the top corner to give the away side the lead going into half-time.

However, after the break the Bantams came back out fighting and, after a few chances, Stuart McCall’s side finally hit back with a goal.

Novak found himself with space in the centre of the box before guiding Tyler French’s cross home - in the 61st minute.

The No.9 had more goals in him and added to his and his side's tally to give City the lead for the first time in the afternoon, with nine minutes remaining.

Billy Clarke neatly brought the ball down before guiding it along into Novak’s path. The striker made no mistake in nestling his shot into the bottom corner.

Alex Revell’s men tried to secure an equaliser late on but could not convert as the referee blew for the final time.
