DONALDSON EXCITED FOR WANDERERS CLASH

Clayton Donaldson insists the Bantams are ”ready” for the 2020/21 campaign, ahead of their season opener against Bolton Wanderers in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

City kick off their competitive season with a trip across the Pennines to the University of Bolton Stadium this afternoon, with supporters able to stream the action exclusively LIVE via iFollow.

The Jamaican international expects the hosts to provide the Bantams with a tough test, but is confident he and his team-mates can hit the ground running as they return from a six-month absence to competitive football.

“We cannot wait to be back," said Donaldson.

“It has been a long time coming - having been out for so long. We returned to training five or six weeks ago and feel prepared so, hopefully, we can now crack on with no disruptions.

“All the new players have fit in nicely and it seems like they have been here for a long time, which is always positive. They are all confident lads and have taken to life here really well.

“We want to achieve promotion. If everyone stays fit and healthy then we are confident of reaching our goal.

“We just have to hope there are no disruptions and we can all stay fit and healthy throughout the season."

The former Bolton man is looking forward to facing his former club - whom he left for City last summer - despite the game being behind closed doors.

Donaldson made 31 appearances for the Trotters during his one-year stint, and is ready to tackle the challenge of playing in front of no supporters in Lancashire.

He added: “I do not think there are many of my former team-mates still at Bolton, but it is a club I am very fond of.

“I really enjoyed my time there and am happy to see them back on track, because they are club who, like ourselves, should not be in this division.

“No supporters in the stadium will definitely be a massive miss for us. We always get a brilliant away following and our fans act as our 12th man.

“There are a lot of obstacles we will face this year but it is up to us to try and overcome them.”
