OPPOSITION GUIDE: DONCASTER ROVERS

The Bantams will look to kick off their 2020/21 campaign with back-to-back victories, as they make the 43-mile journey to face Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy tomorrow evening (7.30pm).

Under the leadership of manager Darren Moore, Rovers finished ninth in Sky Bet League One last season - just six points outside of the play-off places.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The South Yorkshire outfit have spent the summer making five new additions to their squad, with six players heading the other way.

Ins: Jason Lokilo (Crystal Palace), Ed Williams (Kidderminster Harriers), Josef Bursik (Stoke City, loan), Taylor Richards (Brighton & Hove Albion, loan), Cameron John (Wolverhampton Wanderers).

Outs: Matty Blair (Cheltenham Town), Kieran Sadlier (Rotherham United), Ian Lawlor (Oldham Athletic), Alex Baptiste (Bolton Wanderers), Alex Kiwomya (released), Devante Cole (released).

ONES TO WATCH

Reece James

Manchester United academy graduate Reece James joined Rovers in 2019 following previous stints at Wigan Athletic and Sunderland.

The 26-year-old left-back made 32 appearances for the club last campaign, scoring two goals and registering three assists.

Jon Taylor

Liverpool-born Jon Taylor was a regular fixture in the Rovers squad last season, making 35 appearances and contributing to 13 goals for the Sky Bet League One side.

The 28-year-old winger netted twice in Doncaster's final pre-season fixture against Manchester United Under-23s. 

Madger Gomes

Former Liverpool and Leeds United midfielder Madger Gomes made 23 appearances for Rovers last term.

The 23-year-old has been capped internationally by Spain at under-17 and under-18 level.

THE MANAGER

Darren Moore was appointed Doncaster Rovers manager in July 2019 after his time as West Bromwich Albion boss came to an end.

During his playing career, the 46-year-old made 63 appearances for the Bantams between 1997 and 1999.

THE CAPTAIN

Ben Whiteman was appointed as Rovers captain at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Rochdale-born midfielder joined the club from Sheffield United - initially on-loan - in 2017, before turning his move permanent the following summer.

Whiteman has racked up 136 appearances for Rovers, scoring 17 goals and registering 8 assists as he enters his fourth season with the club.

LAST TIME OUT

Doncaster Rovers concluded their pre-season campaign with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Manchester United Under-23s at the Keepmoat Stadium.
