City’s under-18s were beaten for the first time in eight matches, suffering a 4-2 loss to Doncaster Rovers.

The hosts raced into a four-goal lead before half-time, which proved enough for them to overcome the young Bantams at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Rovers went close to breaking the deadlock early on in the contest when Will Hollings’ effort was denied by City goalkeeper Darryl Ombang.

However, moments later, Hollings did give the hosts the lead with an effort from just outside the penalty area, which nested into the bottom corner.

The South Yorkshire side doubled their advantage when the ball fell to Alex Fletcher - whose left-footed strike also found the bottom corner of the net.

Donny were then awarded a penalty when Alex Wolny was bought down inside the 18-yard box.

Dan Wilds stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake.

The home team then went four goals in front when Jack Raper’s free-kick was inadvertently headed into his own net by Sam Bentley.

City came close to netting a goal of their own just before the interval when Jack Wilson’s low cross found skipper Charlie Wood - who had his effort saved by Luke Chadwick.

The West Yorkshire side nearly scored right at the beginning of the second period when Bobby Pointon’s effort came back off the crossbar.

The visitors did manage to pull one back when, despite Pointon’s effort being kept out, Dylan Youmbi was on hand to tap-in the rebound from close range.

The Bantams almost added another immediately after, but two efforts from Wood were both cleared off the goalline by Michael Nesbitt.

City did grab their second goal of the game when Olivier Sukiennicki’s corner was headed into the back of the net by Bentley.

Despite the visitors’ attempts to stage a late comeback, Rovers were able to see the game out and gain the victory.
