GILLIEAD RARING TO GO AGAINST STEVENAGE

17 August 2021

Alex Gilliead is ready and raring for the Bantams’ Sky Bet League Two clash with Stevenage this evening.

City will be aiming to secure back-to-back triumphs at the Utilita Energy Stadium for the first time since April.

While Gilliead is expecting this to be a difficult game, he insists he and his team-mates are very much ready for the challenge.

He said: “Stevenage have started very well, so it will be a tough game, but we are ready for it.

“Every match you play in this league is difficult, so you need to make sure you approach it with the right mindset.

“It is up to us to show similar levels of intensity to those we did at the weekend.

“If we do this, then there is no reason why we cannot gain another important three points this early in the season.”

Gilliead was also eager to reflect on the Bantams’ 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic at the weekend.

Over 17,000 supporters were in attendance at Valley Parade, and Gilliead claimed occasions such as those were why he was so eager to return to the club for a third spell.

He added: “The occasion against Oldham was fantastic to be a part of.

“It was the best and worst way to win a game, but the important thing was that we sent the returning supporters home happy.

“Atmospheres and moments like that are exactly why I wanted to come back here, when I was offered the opportunity.

“Hopefully, we can now create more special memories throughout this season.”
