BIG MATCH PREVIEW: CITY v SUTTON UNITED

10 December 2021

The Bantams are at the Utilita Energy Stadium on Saturday for the second time this week, welcoming Sutton United for a 3.00pm kick-off in Sky Bet League Two.

The two sides have never faced each other in a competitive setting before, despite both clubs having over a hundred years worth of playing history.

Sutton have hit the ground running in Sky Bet League Two, finding themselves sixth after 20 games.

City will be looking to build on their midweek draw with Colchester United as Derek Adams’ men enter their final home match before Christmas.

We have created a Big Match Preview to give you all the key details you need to know, heading into the encounter.

TEAM NEWS

City: Andy Cook remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and will be out until after Christmas.

Abo Eisa has undergone surgery on his hamstring after injuring it at Scunthorpe, with his latest setback due to put him out of action for up to four months.

Charles Vernam will be unavailable for the clash but Derek Adams is hoping to have his services available in the next few weeks, after Caolan Lavery returned from injury in midweek.

Sutton: Captain Craig Eastmond will not travel to West Yorkshire after receiving a straight red card in Tuesday’s clash with Newport County.

Louis John and Coby Rowe are both set to miss the clash due to their respective injuries, with the pair leaving Matt Gray short of defensive options.

Kenny Davis is expected to be fit for the encounter despite coming off injured in midweek.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAID

Derek Adams: “Sutton have had a fabulous start to the season.

“I saw them against Newport. They were 2-0 up and playing really well but, unfortunately, got a player sent off and Newport scored a last-minute penalty.

“We have watched good footage of them. We understand they will come here and go and play.”

Matt Gray: “We are the lightest we have been all season and have had to shuffle the pack. We have some key players sat at home.

“They put their bodies on the line in difficult circumstances with the injuries we have got and the amount of games we have played in such a short space of time.

“What a great group we have got with the desire and work rate. Nothing fazes them. Any point away from home I will take all day long.”
