O’DONNELL LOOKING FORWARD TO BEGINNING FRIENDLIES

Richard O’Donnell insists the Bantams cannot wait for pre-season action to begin on the field, after a valuable training trip to Scotland this week.

City returned home from the outskirts of Glasgow yesterday afternoon, following an intense three days of work.

O’Donnell feels the fact supporters will be back inside stadium for the friendlies gives the fixtures an added incentive, and is looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.

He said: “We are all looking forward to the games massively, and this year we are going to have supporters there with us for the first time in a long time, which is huge.

“We are going to be seeing a lot of familiar faces in the friendlies, which is good for everyone, and there is a lot to be excited about over the next few weeks.

“Even having fans at the pre-season games is massive, because football is not the same without them.

“That first home game of the season is going to be extra special, and adds a little bit more excitement to the pre-season training and matches.”

The goalkeeper has taken a lot from the past week of training, in particular growing closer to Bantams boss Derek Adams.

The 32-year-old has praised the standard of training, and is looking forward to working with his new team-mates and manager at closer quarters in the coming weeks.

O’Donnell added: “Training has been great, and the boys are looking sharp and focussed, so it has been a good build up for next week - where we are getting back into the games again.

“The gaffer has obviously been able to suss us out, and we are getting to learn more and more about him and how he wants us to play.

“These trips where we are all in it together have been good for that. The gaffer has been brilliant from the first day with us, and this trip has helped massively.

“He has worked us very hard, as everyone is well aware, so now it is time for us to focus on the football and how he wants us to play ahead of the friendlies next week.”

O’Donnell is sponsored by Pickergill Financial Planning for the 2021/22 season.
