RETURNING WATT PLEASED WITH ‘STRONG’ CITY PERFORMANCE

25 July 2021

Returning City midfielder Elliot Watt was delighted with the Bantams’ “strong” display - following their 2-0 victory over Sky Bet Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The Bantams earned their fifth-consecutive pre-season triumph thanks to goals in each half from Lee Angol and Callum Cooke at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

Watt heaped praise on City’s all-round performance on the day, and is happy with the momentum Derek Adams' side has built with their perfect pre-season record so far.

He said: “It was another excellent performance and result for us.

“The most encouraging thing was how we kept on pushing for more goals until the end - and were determined to keep a clean sheet.

“We have all been working very hard throughout pre-season, and that is certainly showing on the pitch.

“To beat a team as good as Blackburn 2-0 was certainly very encouraging.

“We just need to continue to keep working hard and take our good spirits into the new season.”

Watt was also thrilled to have played his first match in pre-season for the Bantams.

The 21-year-old recently suffered a minor injury blow but made his return against Rovers, with 70 minutes on the field.

He added: “It felt excellent to get back out there on the pitch, especially in front of the supporters for the first time in my career at this club.

“It has been a frustrating couple of weeks, being out injured and not being able to train.

“However, I give plenty of credit to our medical team for the way they have handled my injury - and my team-mates for how they have been performing on the pitch so far in pre-season.

“I am happy the setback is over and now I can focus on getting up to full fitness going into the new season.”

Watt and the Bantams will be back in action on Tuesday evening when visiting Chesterfield (7.30pm).
