Kian Scales has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the Utilita Energy Stadium until at least the end of the 2022/23 season.
The young midfielder’s contract was set to expire following the 2020/21 campaign, though he has put pen to paper on one which will take him into his third year as a professional.
Scales, 19, made 23 appearances in his debut season for the Bantams, scoring his first goal in claret and amber in a 2-1 victory at Colchester United, which saw him take City’s Expect Distribution March Goal of the Month prize.
He joins fellow academy graduates Finn Cousin-Dawson, Jorge Sikora and Reece Staunton in signing contract extensions over the past nine months, since stepping up into the professional ranks.
Scales said: “I am buzzing to have signed for another two years. I have been here since I was 12 or 13 years old, so to have earned another two years at the club is something me and my family are very proud of.
“I managed to get quite a few games in my first year as a professional, but still feel I have a lot more to learn and prove, so the security of two more years gives me a great opportunity to do that.
“We have our goals for next season, and I have mine personally. I am going to do all I can to try and make sure we hit them and help get Bradford City back where the club belongs.”
Bantams boss Derek Adams said: “Kian is another of our talented young players we are delighted to have tied down for at least the next couple of years.
“We all got to see a lot of him last season, in his first year as a professional, where he featured quite heavily at times and picked up valuable experience.
“On top of impressive physical capabilities, he has a fantastic mentality which has been demonstrated by the way in which he has risen through the academy - for more than five years - and broken into the first team.
“I am looking forward to working with Kian over the next two seasons and beyond, and am excited to see him hopefully develop further.”
