BIG MATCH PREVIEW: NEWPORT COUNTY v CITY

9 March 2021

City will look to extend their unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two - when travelling to the Cardiff City Stadium to play Newport County on Tuesday evening (7.00pm).

Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars’ side are unbeaten in the last six matches - winning five and drawing one. A win against the South Wales outfit would move the Bantams to within a point of the Exiles.

Michael Flynn’s side climbed back into the play-off places after seeing off Colchester United at the weekend, following a run of two wins in seven games.

We have created this Big Match Preview to guide you through all of the key information and insight ahead of the visit to the Welsh capital.

TEAM NEWS

City: Saturday’s man of the match, Danny Rowe, will be pushing to start in Cardiff after helping to rescue a point against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Gareth Evans is also fit and available for selection once again, having missed City's last few games with an injury.

The Bantams’ top goal-scorer Lee Novak remains out, as do Harry Pritchard, Zeli Ismail Bryce Hosannah.

Newport: Padraig Amond scored for the Exiles at the Colchester Community Stadium on Saturday and is set to start on Tuesday evening.

Ex-Bantam Kevin Ellison made the bench against Colchester United and is likely to play a part against his former side.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAID

Conor Sellars: “We cannot afford to treat this game any differently to how we would have done, had we have played Newport before the new year.

“They are a good side who can mix up their way of playing quite a bit.

“We know what they are capable of, and what kind of a team they are, so that is what is in our minds ahead of the game.

“They have a strong squad and will cause teams problems, so we are expecting a good game.”
