Goal-scorer Kian Scales was thrilled to help his side end their five-match winless run - following the Bantams’ 2-1 victory over Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two.

The 18-year-old netted his first senior goal for the club 10 minutes into the contest at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Scales stressed the importance of City getting back to winning ways and hopes they can now build on this result in their upcoming games.

He said: “To end our recent winless run and come away with three points was huge for us.

“I thought it was a great performance from the whole team.

“We all stuck to our tasks well and had to dig deep to get over the line, which thankfully we were able to do.

“Hopefully, now, we can build on this result and start to pick up more wins in future games.”

Scales was also delighted to score his first senior goal in claret and amber.

The midfielder signed a professional contract with the Bantams in July 2020 and is now hoping he can now kick on and start more games going forward.

He added: “I have been waiting all season to score my first professional goal for the club, so for it to finally happen was a dream come true.

“Clayton (Donaldson) laid the ball off to me and I just managed to get enough whip on it for it to find the back of the net.

“Every time I am given the opportunity to go out there on the pitch, I just want to make the most of it and prove what I can do.

“Starting the last couple of games has been encouraging and - thankfully, in this one - I feel I have taken my chance by scoring.

“Hopefully, I can continue to play and prove my worth to the team.”
